Exploring what Repentance is in Christianity

How Christians do it! Repentance appears prominently in the Scriptures. In the New Testament, the first command that Jesus gave was to repent.

In Mathew 4 The Bible New Testament

Jesus Begins His Ministry in Galilee
Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and made his home in Copernican by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali,
on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned.” From that time Jesus began to proclaim, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

In Acts 20:21

As I testified to both Jews and Greeks about repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus. The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent

What is Repentance

Repentance is the activity of reviewing one’s actions and feeling contrition or regret for past wrongs, which is accompanied by commitment to change for the better.

How Christians Do it!

Repentance is a stage in Christian salvation where the believer turns away from sin.

Ordo salutis = order of salvation

Ordo salutis refers to a series of conceptual steps within the Christian doctrine of salvation. It has been defined as, “a technical term of Protestant dogmatics to designate the consecutive steps in the work of the Holy Spirit in the appropriation of salvation.

Salvation in Christianity, or deliverance, redemption is the “saving of human beings from death and separation from God” by Christ’s death and resurrection, and the justification following this salvation. Christians partake in this redemption by baptism, repentance, and participating in Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Salvation is the saving of the soul from sin and its consequences.

After studying this it appears that Repentance is admitting ones sins and promising not to sin anymore.
