Fortnite update – Guided missiles, Easter egg launchers & Sniper Shootout

Fortnite update

There’s a new Fortnite update today — version 3.4 of the game — that adds a new weapon, Guided missiles, and brings back the Boogie Bomb to the Battle Royal part of the game. On the Save the World side, expect some Easter-themed cosmetic items and quests.

Fortnite’s new guided missile weapon lets players fire a rocket-propelled explosive and take direct control of it. “Once you take on the missile’s point-of-view, you’re unable to move your character,” Epic said in Fortnite’s 3.4 patch notes. “Disconnect from the missile at any time and the missile will continue its trajectory.”

Epic also added a new limited-time mode to Fortnite Battle Royale called Sniper Shootout v2. Players can use crossbows and hunting rifles, but unlike the original Sniper Shootout mode for Battle Royale, there won’t be any magnum revolvers available for close quarters combat.

Also, in the Fortnite update grenade launchers are now egg launchers. That’s merely a cosmetic change for the Easter holiday.

Fortnite version 3.4 also has some technical improvements, including a host of bug fixes and performance tweaks. Epic has removed the 30 fps option on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, saying that “we made some significant GPU optimizations which improved visual quality, including resolution in 60 FPS mode, and we now feel there is very little reason to play at 30 FPS.”

In addition to “significant improvements to visual quality on consoles,” Epic said it also made “major netcode optimizations to reduce lag.”

There are also improvements for the mobile version of Fortnite, including antialiasing (4x MSAA) and a new system that should make downloads of future updates faster.

Fortnite’s Save the World mode gets a new questline, “The Three Husketeers,” that wraps up the Spring It On event with “an egg-streme Mini-Boss battle.” There’s also a pair of rabbit-themed looks for Save the World: Rabbit Raider Jonesy and Miss Bunny Penny.

The new Fortnite hotness is a drivable missile that does a whopping 105 damage to whomever’s on the other end of it. It stays alive for 18 seconds, just enough time to fly a couple circles around your target or shoot it far across the map. After shooting it, your point-of-view view shifts to the missile’s so it’s easy to direct. That leaves the player vulnerable to attack. Better stay safe.

The Egg Launcher in Fortnite Battle Royale is a temporary reskin for the grenade launcher in the game. Aside from firing brightly colored Easter Eggs rather than grenades, there is nothing else different about it in terms of what it does. It does come in a Gold (Legendary) drop, though, which is pretty neat, but aside from that it’s just a fancy grenade launcher.

Sniper Shootout V2 went live today with the 3.4 update, alongside the new guided missile, the Easter egg launcher and a bunch of other fixes. But players hoping to gain some extra XP and progress through Season 3 tiers won’t be getting any rewards until the problem is fixed. Sniper Shootout V2 is a little different from its previous form – the magnum has been removed and in its place are the hunting rifle and the crossbow.
